2D physics engine
This is an amazing bit of work from Stuart Schoneveld. He has created an engine for manipulating 2D objects and allowing them to interact with each other. As demos he has made two pinball games examples. He has also made a special editor using ScreenWeaver, which you can use to build a scene and define the physical characteristics of each object. He says this will be available for sale at some point fairly soon.
Stuart has been out of action since January, after developing Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. It's great to see him back - and bringing such a great contribution. I have recently experienced mild symptoms of CTS or tendonitis, and it was the knowledge of what happened to Stuart that helped convince me to slow down. Well, that and all my friends saying "slow down!!"...
ecmascript v4
Some interesting stuff from zoode blog about ECMAScript 4 and JavaScript 2 specifications. This seems to be the way things are headed, so its well worth a look. Ahmet has provided some example code, which is helpful, because these specifications can get fairly heavy going (though they remind me of Maths definitions from my university days - ahh, fond memories..).
The standard has lots of cool things like real class declarations, interfaces, optional variable typing and exception handling. It would be great if Flash could go down this route too.
top of the goog!
Geoff Bowers, curator of the Goog, just showed me this interesting stat. Now, I'm not one to brag and Geoff did tell me not to show this new experimental page around, but I'm about as liable to keep my mouth shut as a Flasher with the full feature list for Flash 7!
[update: I am no longer top of the goog, or even in the top 10. Obviously something has gone very wrong over there... ;-)]
Geoff has done the charts with the 3D charting components from DRK 4. Which just goes to show, they're so easy to use a ColdFusion developer can do it! ;-)
[edit: Although Geoff told me that he used CFCHART for the charts, for some reason I didn't take that info in. These are not done with DRK components after all.]
[update: This is my most updated/corrected post ever!]
