Shared Object Editor Tool

Yet another add-on to ASV is available from today - the SOL Editor. You get it for free if you own ASV and I think that's the only way to get it. Essentially, its a tree view of the structure of any .SOL file, with the ability to edit any properties and add your own. Its got some nice touches too, like the way you can import or export an XML object to a file, or view the XML in your browser.

Also, released from Manitu Group today is an MXP extractor, which is an ASV add-on too.

With the ever-growing list of add-ons, ASV is becoming one of those indenspensible 3rd party apps that any serious Flash developer can't be without.

New Moock book

I just got wind that Colin's newest book, Essential ActionScript 2.0, will be going for sale this friday. I was lucky enough to read an early draft of the book last year, and I was as impressed with the attention to detail that we have come to expect from Colin. He's had many months to refine it since then, so it should be amazing.

EAS2 assumes you have knowledge of AS1.0 and gives and introduction to ActionScript 2.0 and OOP, explaining basics, best practices and then into depth on how to write good code using design patterns. It isn't a reference book like ActionScript: Definitive Guide - you still need that - but it's the definitive practical guide to how to use ActionScript 2.0 to its full potential.
